Restaurant owners have a lot on their plates (no pun intended) and the cost in time and money for not completing the proper paperwork is much more daunting. When starting or growing any business, you will need to assure that all necessary forms are completed properly to avoid delays, penalties or even worse defect. Often underestimated is the process for obtaining a liquor license. It will be challenging and time consuming. In New York State you cannot purchase or transfer a liquor license from a person or business, you must apply for a new license. You can however, apply for a temporary permit while you are waiting for your license. Most new businesses will need approvals from federal, state and/or local government agencies before the doors will open.
